Sponsoring a bronze plaque in front of Mannheim Castle
Our region is rich in bright minds. For centuries, numerous discoveries and inventions have been made here that changed our world and still shape it today. It is time to honor these innovations. Our association will commemorate the achievements of inventors and discoverers with a "Mile of Innovations".
To realize the project we need the help of sponsors. Their names can be mentioned on the plate. Since our association is recognized as a non-profit organization, we can issue a donation receipt.
The Mile of Innovations is intended to promote the "we" feeling and the willingness to identify with the history of our region and its economic, technical and cultural diversity. By looking at famous role models, it can strengthen the will to achieve, especially among young people, as well as the innovativeness and future viability of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region.
Who of us does not know the "pioneers of mobility" Carl Benz and Karl Drais. But many other innovative minds worked in our region to whom we owe significant cultural, technical, scientific, medical and economic progress.
They include not only natural scientists such as Johann Jakob Hemmer, Christian Mayer, Karl Friedrich Schimper, Robert Bunsen and Gustav Kirchhoff and engineers and technicians such as Friedrich Bergius, Carl Bosch, Felix Wankel, Ludwig Roebel, Hugo Stotz and Julius Hatry, but also artists such as Friedrich Schiller and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The list is long, and it is by no means limited to the past! Rather, it also includes modern innovators, such as the youngest Nobel Prize winners from our region.
A bronze plaque measuring 42 by 42 centimeters is to be installed in front of Mannheim Castle for each significant innovation. Via a QR code attached to the plaque, it will be possible to retrieve further information via smartphone. In this way, the "Mile of Innovation" will provide interesting information and make Mannheim's city center more attractive.
