The 33rd bronze plaque on the Mile of Innovation in front of Mannheim Palace is dedicated to Otto Feick and the rhönrad he invented in Ludwigshafen in 1921. Fritz-Jochen Weber, Chairman of the "Kurpfälzer Meile der Innovationen", also welcomed guests from Reichenbach-Steegen, Otto Feick's birthplace, to the inauguration ceremony. First and foremost, the newly elected local mayor Kathrin Wolf and the 1st alderman Günter Albrecht as well as Gerd Häßel, the chairman of the Rhönradmuseum. He made sure that the costs of the board could be raised with a total of 13 individual donations. This is the first table to be donated by several people and institutions.
In her laudatory speech, Roswitha Henz-Best, deputy chairwoman of the "Kurpfälzer Meile der Innovationen" association, presented the story of the railroad locksmith Otto Feick and the triumph of his sports equipment, which Feick called the "Rhönrad" in gratitude to his later homeland. City Councillor Andrea Safferling, representing the Mayor of Mannheim, conveyed greetings on behalf of the city.
After the new board had been uncovered by Gerd Häßel, the highlight of the afternoon followed, a demonstration by two gymnasts and their trainer on a rhönrad. Many of the guests had never seen rhönrad gymnastics live before and were very impressed. In glorious sunshine, everyone was able to enjoy the Rhönrad bread donated by the Kissel bakery in Reichenbach-Steegen with a glass of sparkling wine.
